I’ve done several network scans to take inventory on the machines in my domain but only some are showing up. there are many machines missing that are currently powered. The missing machines are listed in AD and associated with IPv4 addresses in DHCP. Has anyone else run into this?

If machines are missing that were on, one of the first things I would check is that the scan range includes those devices (such as scanning by IP). Next, the devices need to answer a ping from the Spiceworks computer in order for Spiceworks to know they exist and a nslookup has to resolve properly for Spiceworks to locate the computer.

Thanks for all the input gentlemen. The issue turned out to be related to the inbound firewall exceptions on the remote machines. I was able to test one to verify. I have now made some group policy firewall rules, and I’m getting closer to a complete inventory. I just need to weed out the last few machines that are hiding out.
