This will be quite an upgrade from my big 1970’s Fal Kestral 100W amp!

Anyone got one of these?

I’ve never played the Boss Katana 50 MK2. But I have seen demos. Seems pretty versatile. I had to Google the Fal Kestral. Being in the US, I was unfamiliar with those. However, I am intrigued…

The Kestral is a big old beast but still works well, I just thought it was time for a modern portable amp that has modelling and effects capability and USB to plug into my PC etc. After trawling through many Youtube vids this seemed the one. Should come tomorrow so am buzzing with antcipation!

Katana arrived so I guess this weekend is going to be guitar weekend!

I am a Roland amps only player & use outboard effects for any tubes etc.
Not tried the Katana series (they look good in marketing) but I have been using one of the 3 watt cube amps as my main practice amp for the past few years.
Must say it way outperforms a Peavey 30 watt I used to use, as well as great effects for that use scenario

Well it has been interesting trying to learn how to use it a bit this weekend, it has a lot of functions to get my head around.

I am loving the clean sound with a bit of reverb, particularly on the neck pickup of my old squire strat.

It has an acoustic setting so at some point I will plug in my Sigma and my Admira classical to see how they sound.

Also need try my other guitars, Blueridge LP and Aria Pro II to see how they sound. So far the distortion effects seemed a bit sharp to my ears.

I have had to order a decent USB printer cable to connect my Laptop for the Boss software, I did connect it with a 1m cable, but too short for me to sit down and figure out what to do with it…

Ok, so many of you will have had experience of this kind of thing before but it was a first for me.

I installed the Boss Katana Tone Studio Editor software and connected my amp to the PC, plugged a guitar in and then started changing the sound and effects using the software, amazing!

I can then save setting combination I really like and recall later. Pretty cool!
