Just saw the new 15" Dell Latitude e6540.

It is the laptop I’ve wanted from Dell for a long time!

1920x1080 Screen with a 2GB DDR5 Radeon 8790M video card

4th Gen quad i7-4800MQ

32GB Max ram

Plus all the goodies being a e6xxx series Latitude, warranty service, build, docking station, etc.

Great specs! Should play solitaire VERY smoothly!

if you get one run 3D mark on it and let me know your scores on the final section.

That will only cost you a few dollars!

Hopefully one will show up in the Dell Outlet before my credit card burns a hole in pocket.

No SSD option on 15" models, no thanks. What’s the point of all that computing power when disk will slow it to a crawl.

500GB 5400rpm SATA Solid State Hybrid Drive - it’s a compromise, but better than no SSD. My Latitude came with the SSD option and I’d never go back!

That’s one nice laptop!!!

WRT “no SSD” I think the OPs link goes to a “ships fast” config, which has minimal configuration options (you’ll note that you can’t tweak the RAM, either). I pulled the same machine up in Premier with a fully customizable configuration and had the following drive options:

500 GB 5400rpm Hard Drive, FIPS Opal Encrypted

500GB 5400rpm SATA SOlid State Hybrid Drive

1.0 Terabyte 5400rpm SATA Solid State Hybrid Drive

128GB Mobility Solid State Drive

So I think the big news here is that you can’t get a standard HD in this machine at all (hybrid or encrypted options only) and the only SSD available is fairly small.

It shows up in your Premier account?? All I see in my is the 6530.

Not coming with an SSD is not a big deal. I usually add my own SSD for the OS/booting and get a hard drive caddy to replace the optical drive with a larger storage drive.

Ah,I see it now. It only showed up with a search. Thanks all.

WEI for Win7/8: Dell e6540 Windows Experience Index (WEI) « esSJae's Virtualization Blog

Did you get your e6540, how is it working? I have one and the lcd response time seems horrible when I scroll through a web page. The text looks real blurry and flickers. It could be because I installed windows 8 and dell doesn’t list windows 8 video card drivers yet. I tried drivers from AMD and from intel. It looks like the intel video card can’t be disabled in this model. I know some dell’s have that option in the bios.

I’ve looked online and found some issues with other users saying the AMD card isn’t being used at all and they aren’t sure how to enable it. There also seems to have a blue tint to the screen.

Other than the screen\video driver issues, the laptop is really nice. Keyboard works great. Considering I’m going to be starring at this thing for a long time I plan to return it.

I may order the new XPS 15" instead but it’s missing the keypad. It also has the touch screen which I don’t think I want because those screens are glossy with glare. I wonder if the e6530 would be a better choice and I wonder if this laptop is removed from premier due to the video card issues.

I haven’t’ seen any issues with the screen.

The way I got Win 8 on was to do an upgrade from Windows 7. Then do any driver updates required.

I didn’t have luck doing a fresh install of Windows 8. 8.1 was a complete nightmare.

From what I can tell, both video cards are working, the AMD is able to run 3Dmark benchmarks. I’ve got options for switchable graphics on the pop-up menu.
