Hello everyone

I am about to launch my new IT consulting business, and I wanted to get some advise so I do it right. I am a small company, just me atm but I have access to consultants should I need them.

With that said, should I start by offering niche services, or a much wider variety of services?

My gut says to start small and focused and expand from there, bc consulting is about being an expert people need, and although I can get them experts, it would be better to start off with specific niches I know and speak very well too.

But I am torn bc I feel like I am missing out on some big market aspects if I do only focus on niche services.

What is best practice? What would you recommend?

Thank you very much

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

I’ve just closed my consulting business, and gone to work for a customer.

Looking back, I think that I should have concentrated on a nice market that I know really well and build up a reputation in that market. Maybe you are really good at looking after car garages - find out exactly how you can add value, and then market directly to the garages in your area.

{"@type":"Person
davidlloydwilliams
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/davidlloydwilliams"}},{"@type":"Answer

Make sure you have Errors and Omissions Insurance or you can be sued into bankruptcy by someone with less scruples. It happened to my friend quite a few years ago.

{"@type":"Person
brianswales
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/brianswales"}}]}}
