So Unitrends has some new licensing options, but their web page doesn’t really say anything about them. This is all I know. Hopefully Katie can provide some more information.

In September 2015, Unitrends announced its new licensing model to the world. Our new lineup is designed to better meet the needs of our end-user community. We decided to update our licensing model to create more flexible options; now customers can buy exactly what they need, with more competitive price point for smaller environments!

Kevin - Thanks for this feedback. We are adding some more details to that landing page, but in the meantime, you may want to check out this section of our website. It covers the licensing details & the prices. If you still have questions after looking this over, will you let me know?

The page lists “Any Size Environment” for Standard, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus. If I were to spend $999 to purchase Enterprise edition, would that entitle me to back up an unlimited amount of systems, or is pricing based on environment size with a per-socket, per-CPU, per-core or per-host cost?

Mark - The Essentials edition will protect up to 10 resources, while the the Standard, Enterprise & Enterprise Plus editions are licensed by resource, but include additional features, like 2nd site WAN-optimized backup copies, enterprise application protection, and recovery assurance. We classify a resource as a physical server or a CPU socket for virtual environments. None of these licenses have a limit to the data size that you’re protecting. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

Kate,

Thanks for responding so quickly. Or are the posted prices of $499 (Standard), $999 (Enterprise), $1499 (Enterprise Plus) the resource price. Meaning a 2 socket license for Enterprise would be $1998?

Marc - This is correct, but keep in mind that unless you need the additional features of the Enterprise license, the Essentials edition will protect up to 10 resources for $299 total, and the Standard (which is our most popular edition) will protect 2 sockets for $998 total. This tab of our site shows the differences between the editions a bit more clearly. Please let me know what questions you may have.

I assume you mean “Standard” is the most popular edition. Thanks for answering my questions.

I would recommend some clarification being added to the page. I never would have guessed that Essentials includes the 10 resources. My read was that it was a per-resource cost, but that the maximum was 10 resources total.

Is it possible to mix editions in an environment? If I needed to protect an Exchange server, I’d need Enterprise edition. But, I have plenty of other resources that would be fine with the Standard edition license.

Marc - Thanks for catching my mistake in my last post. I did mean Standard, and have corrected it.Also, thanks for your suggestion on updating our site. I’ve shared that with our team.

Unfortunately, you cannot mix editions in one environment since managing multiple editions under one interface can create issues.

OK. Thanks for answering my questions.

You’re very welcome. If you’d like to chat with one of our engineers about your environment to ensure that you’re looking at the best configuration, please let me know.
