Help! I have been working with Spiceworks for a few weeks now but i haven’t been able to get a quarter of my devices to check in.

I am not too stressed about the workstations but many of my servers are coming back with host unreachable or firewalled even though there is no firewall between them and their local firewalls are off.

Thank you for any help!

Have you checked out this article on resolving unknown devices & scan errors ?

I know what you mean, I had a lot of trouble with unknowns when I first started using spiceworks, and the biggest issue seems to be that servers and desktops are configured by default to not let RPC’s through the windows firewall even if you have the firewall turned off. This should help resolve any unknowns:

The main thing to check out is the firewall part. Once you have the exceptions in place, you’ll find most of you’r problems have been resolved.

Hope this helps and welcome to Spiceworks!

Great replies. @C4Gamer this answers are all great. The how-to articles really helped me get started with the network scanning unknowns.

Thank you all for your prompt and helpful responses. Unfortunately they didn’t help.

I am using my computer as a test bed as it is simalar to many computers here (Windows 7 x64, Domain, Symantec endpoint protection).

The issue is that Spiceworks will not connect even though every test that i have ran says there is no issue. I can access the WMI of my computer from the SW server.

There is a firewall in the middle that i cannot access but i have been told that all ports should be open.

The problem could be SEP blocking it somewhere along the line. I don’t use SEP myself, but I’ve seen a few other people around here who do use it. they may have some ideas.
