for some reason, every time spiceworks does a network scan, it adds to the application list any newly installed software, which is great, but it is not removing software that is being uninstalled off a device.

i want to know if software has been uninstalled, as i use it to detect software that should not be in our network, and then we uninstall the software, but every time i run a report, it says all those machines still have the software on them…

is anyone else seeing these types of scanning issues? is there anytihng i can do to help this short of uninstalling spiceworks and deleting the database?

2 Spice ups

Spiceworks gets the information about installed software from the HKLM\Software registry hive, when software does not uninstall completely there are often registry entries left overhanging that result in Spiceworks detecting the software as still installed.

A registry cleaner, if that does not remove the overhanging registry entries you can also use the regedit or regedt32 to search the registry on the hive mentioned for any reference to the uninstalled software and clean it up yourself with care.

Remember to backup your PC before editing the registry just in case.

As Lawrie5252

said, MS is known for keeping registry entries of uninstalled software (ie. Office upgrade). You`ll need to clean up the registry to solve this.

Another reason could be, you have incremental scan on. Follow #1 - #3 of this how-to: Troubleshooting Spiceworks Inventory Inconsistencies - Spiceworks

i had at one point microsoft visio 2003 installed on my pc, it was uninstalled due to an upgrade of the product that was purchased.

spiceworks still detects it on my machine, however when running Microsoft Software Inventory Analyzer for instance, on my local machine, it does not detect it.

there must be a difference in scanning somewhere, and i dont have time to go through 300 plus pcs and hunt down each registry key in this manor.

some one must have come across issues like this in the past… anyones thoughts?

Unfortunately Lawrie5252 is correct, you will need to remove the registry entries.

There is a nice tool to remove an Office version completely. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
