Hi,

We moved recently our firewall fortigate , forti ap and a dell switch to another location. When we connected the fortiAP on the fortigate controller looks disconnect also we have 3 ssid one of them does’nt show up and the other network does’nt provide DHCP… The only ssid working so far is getting DHCP through windows server but it is weird that the fortiAP looks disconnect… Any suggestion what i could be since the AP are on the roof it is too high to get up and get the serial and try to add it again…

If the devices are not connected to the correct vlans then they will not work as expected.

If you think they are connected correctly, verify each one - for example check the fortigate to switch connection - are the correct vlans enabled. Check the ap, the same applies and can you ping it. etc.

{"@type":"Person
matt7863
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/matt7863"}},{"@type":"Answer
Just as m@ttshaw said - recheck how you connected things to your switch.

When you have multiple SSID’s on an AP, than you also have multiple VLAN’s. But these multiple VLANs are not available on all ports of the switch.

As already said, the ‘incoming’ port from your firewall, as well as the ‘outgoing’ port to your AP’s is important.

If you did not label the ports on your switch, than you will have to check the configuration of your firewall, to see what VLAN ID’s were used and than see the switch configuration, what ports have been tagged with these ID’s or as trunk ports. Once you connect the devices to the right ports, everything will work as it used to.

{"@type":"Person
bojanzajc6669
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/bojanzajc6669"}},{"@type":"Answer
Hello everyone, in the world of Fortinet you can have multiple SSIDs without the need of VLAN and still get the network traffic segregated. Fortinet will created its own tunnels within the network for the traffic to flow. I have put 4 SSIDs on a flat network and was still able to keep all the SSID traffic separated.

So my question is were you using VLANs with your SSIDs or not?

Also if your Fortigate is setup in switch mode what happens if you plug your AP directly into the Fortigate? What model Fortigate and FortiAP do you have?

{"@type":"Person
jeffjanor6063
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/jeffjanor6063"}},{"@type":"Answer
