Do you know if the self hosted Spiceworks will offer an email report function or the PowerBI integration?

Yes, email reporting and PowerBI integration are included in the HDS edition. The included reporting is limited. When you want more, than you may use this PowerBI integration. Here, you’ll find further documentation .

I couldn’t find an option to automatically email the reports on a schedule (For processing in Power Automate then processing by powerbi)

I was told the direct database connection from PowerBI was only in cloud version?

I don’t use HDS and did not try a test installation neither. The HDS documentation shows the screen where scheduling should be configured. I don’t know if this feature is implemented or dummy. But I also see a note that sending such scheduled reports per email is definitely currently not supported. There is no mention nor promise if this will change or not.

I haven’t seen a feature request for sending reports per email neither. So please feel free to create one .

Please follow the recommendations of our field guide on getting started (in community participation). It provides an express option to increase in Spicelevel and associated privileges. Only after reaching next Spicelevel, you’ll be able to create such a feature request. You’ve already done some of the requested updates of your community profile but still lacking at least one complementary update. Even for the getting verified option, you’ll need an update of your community profile, which does not need to made visible to all.

Who told you so?

I remember that PowerBI integration existed from the beginning for HDS. I’m not aware of such a feature becoming removed. So it should still be present. As far as I understood, such integration exists for HDS as well as CHD.

But last Spring was an announcement that active development of HDS will be paused until December 2021, such decision to be reviewed during December 2021, and the result of such review become published in December 2021 . Last week I asked too about any news as I could not find such a review result publication. So I expect a PowerBI integration in HDS still present. It might be possible that this integration had proceeded further in the meantime for CHD while remaining unchanged in HDS. See also this HDS product blog . And here is a solved question of last month also on this topic confirming such integration still present.

I had a support ticket open it was a techy called Craig SS1-59382

Unfortunately there isn’t as the connector dev wrote hooks into features on the cloud help desk that aren’t in the help desk server. That might be a future addition to the code, but right now it isn’t there.

If you’re very handy with Power BI, the .xlsx reports from the exports tab provide the raw data that is used for the power BI template, you might be able to make your own template or modify the example one to look directly at an .xlsx file that you download and put somewhere locally. It’s outside the scope of what we could do in support though.

So basically I can’t connect Power BI or schedule the report to email like the desktop version.

So this is another reason to follow the recommendations of getting started field guide and to create 2 new feature requests . Feature requests may still impact Spiceworks review of suspending active development of HDS, as far as I understood.

I see that you updated your community profile as recommended. There you mention that you’re looking for alternatives too, and in the presentation topic, you specify your preference for on-premise. For this case, I recommend to have a look in the topic with pause announcement for active development of HDS . There, other Spiceheads have reported which solutions they have chosen. Some of these are cloud based while others are on-premise.

I worked as system integrator and system tester for a supplier and manufacturer of industrial control systems, in a department for a highly regulated business domain, typically of national critical infrastructures, regardless of Nation, more than a decade ago. The systems we tested were not authorized to have Internet access and didn’t need such access. In such an environment, HDS would not be an option neither as it would require Internet access for some features too. I didn’t test if and how HDS would work if isolated of Internet.

Some Spiceheads work in organizations regulated by HIPAA. And all currently supported editions of Spiceworks clearly state to not be compliant with HIPAA regulation. So if you don’t want your data at Cloud, then you have some overlap with Spiceheads of such organizations.
