My brother’s HP Envy 17T 2100 laptop is having screen issues. I have attached a picture of a picture of it. We pulled it apart and checked the wire and it looks fine with no external signs of damage. It will run a little while, then start flashing the issue until it finally just stays on. The video connector on the MB is pretty close to the cooling fan so we checked to make sure there wasn’t an excess heat issue. Everything seems to be running cool. I am of the opinion that it is the display. Anyone have any different ideas?

Looks like the LCD to me.

I would have second that notion, it’s a laptop? Have you tried using and external display to see if it gives the same display? That would be my first instinct anyway.

This happened on my Wife’s Dell D520. Started with just a few lines off and on and now (about a year later over 80% of the screen looks like that. She just uses an external monitor now! I would look into replacing the LCD panel.

External Displays work flawlessly.

Then I would say you should know what you have to do. It doesn’t appear to be a driver issue as it works flawlessly on an external display. You should be able to find a replacement for around $100. Have fun!

Thanks everybody. Not a lot of question in my mind but I wanted some other opinion before I send him off to spend money.

Sounds like its the screen that’s gone bad, or it could be the inverter that powers the screen. Either way its spend money time…

Stephen, sorry to see that “frosty” image of your LCD. I would have to agree that most likely your LCD needs replacing. Please ping me with your notebook’s product number and serial number as well as your contact information. HP may be able to assist.

Check out www.laptopscreen.com . They have great prices and have a 3 year warranty which can be upgraded to 5 year. I buy from them all the time.

Order a screen and replace it yourself. It really is not that difficult and saves a pile of money. If it is still under warranty have HP do it.
