I’ve been having an issue with remoting into my work computer from my personal PC for quite some time and have yet to come across a fix. My counterpart in the MIS department has been able to remote in from his home PC as well as a contractor of the company from their personal PC but no matter how I try, I can’t remote in from my PC. Any other machine on the network I can remote into except for mine; thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

All, thanks for the responses but I got it figured out…I think. I was using Kerio VPN to remote into my work computer and using Remote Desktop it would always time out. My counterpart changed port 3389 and it still wouldn’t work. It was only after using my work computer’s IP that I was able to remote in and after that I realized that my home laptop and work computer have the same name (not sure if that’s exactly why I was having the issue) and I went ahead and changed the name of my home computer and am now able to remote in using my work computer’s name. I’m going to research if that may have been the cause but if anyone already knows why then I would appreciate if you let me know.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Well, what is actually happening? Do you get an error message? How do you connect? (vpn, direct RDP, something else?)

Can you telnet to it on port 3389? Have you tried to connect by IP rather than by name/fqdn?

{"@type":"Person
Neally
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Neally"}},{"@type":"Answer

How are you trying to accomplish this? Are you using an RDGateway? A VPN? Or are you PATing 3389?

Can you remote into your computer from on the LAN? If not, it is either Windows firewall or equivalent. RDP is not enabled or you aren’t granted the logon remotely rights.

As for the wan-side, it could be a whole host of other issues.

{"@type":"Person
justin1250
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/justin1250"}}]}}
