Good day,
I just want to ask if you have any password reset tool for windows 8 OS. not windows 8.1
Please let me know. My boss forgot the administrator password and we can’t find a way to join it to the domain. and also i’ve used boot hiren but it caters only lower version of windows OS from windows 7 below.

Is this a local account? Or a live account?

Do you have the installation media? You could try this :
Boot your computer using your Windows installation disc.
Wait for the setup files to load, and select your language. Click Next.
Click the Repair your computer link on the Install Windows screen.
Click Troubleshoot, Advanced options, and then open the Command Prompt.
In the Command Prompt window, type copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\ and press Enter.
Type copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe and press Enter.
Exit the Command Prompt and reboot the computer. At the login screen, tap Shift five times. The Command Prompt will pop up.
Type net user username password, replacing username with your username and password with a new password.
Exit the Command Prompt, and log in using your new password.
To prevent another user from exploiting the same trick to reset your password, you can restore Sticky Keys as follows:
Follow the same steps as before except:
Type copy /y c:\sethc.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe and press Enter.
Exit the Command Prompt and reboot the computer. Pressing Shift five times will now activate Sticky Keys instead of the Command Prompt.

I’ve used this one on 8 (local):
http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/
Of course, if it’s a business machine you could just reimage it too.

The above will make you lose access to encrypted files, encrypted email messages, and stored passwords for Internet Explorer and network resources.

Sounds like he disjoined it from the domain and forgot the local admin account to login and rejoin it to the domain.

This is the same as boot hiren. not applicable to windows 8
No sir, this is an old laptop. someone will use it now and we will join it to the domain.

I’d just wipe it, reload it and tell the boss not to be an idiot and forget their password next time.
OP never said he was trying to save any data from local account.

Hiren’s has an older version of it, the current one works with 8; as I said I’ve used it for that.
That said, if it’s an old laptop I’d agree with just wiping it. I’m not joining old non-domain machines to my domain without a refresh.

“No” the domain admin PW doesn’t work, or “no” he didn’t disjoin it from the domain and forget the local PW?
The domain admin password should work, regardless of if you login locally on the laptop…I’d try it via Offline Domain Join.

I’ve only used the CD .iso, but the site has directions for doing it:
How to make an bootable USB drive
Copy all the files that is inside the usbXXXXXX.zip or on the CD onto an usb drive, directly on the drive, not inside any directory/folder.
It is OK if there are other files on the USB drive from before, they will not be removed.
Install bootloader on the USB drive, from command prompt in windows (start the command line with "run as administrator" if possible)
X:syslinux.exe -ma X:
Replace X: with the drive letter the USB drive shows up as (DO NOT USE C:)
If it seems like nothing happened, it is usually done.
However, a file named ldlinux.sys may appear on the USB drive, that is normal.
It should now in theory be bootable.
Please know that getting some computers to boot from USB is worse than from CD, you may have to change settings, or some will not simply work at all.
I would guess using a smaller flash drive, formatted fat32, may help. Or just use a CD and connect an optical USB drive if you have to.

I don’t know what business would allow this… If the install didn’t come from my MDT server its not touching my corporate network. Sorry.
If their account is available within the domain, you may try using Lepide local user management tool that allows to reset passwords within few clicks.
