Size of your environment would be crucial. If it’s small, it’s hard to justify money on an expensive product. But if you’re a large enterprise, it saves a lot more time to automate and there’s justification for spending money.

For Windows WSUS for anything else PDQ

Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) (Free) + WSUS Automated Maintenance (WAM) © ($60USD/Year/WSUS Server) + PDQ Deploy Enterprise ($500USD/Year/Admin) + PDQ Inventory Enterprise ($500USD/Year/Admin)

WSUS does great for Windows Updates. PDQ Inventory/Deploy is great for everything else. You could use PDQ Deploy for Windows updates, but it is a little clunky. Having Inventory give you great insight into what you have in your org. I have especially like being able to scan for certain vulnerabilities (Usually registry or file permission issues) that have come up lately. I could also deploy the temp fixes quickly if possible and scan to see if they were applied correctly.

I’m currently looking to Action1. I’d suggest adding it to your list to check out. I also looked into Ninja and Faronics Deploy. I’ve not made a final decision yet, other pressing items on the To-Do list.

Like others - WSUS and PDQ for the rest.

We do use PDQ for some Windows “Optional” patches but generally WSUS does it. Then PDQ for Chrome, Adobe, Java, and all those other things a non administrator cant update.

I also have a few things like Cisco Jabber which I manually download and use PDQ to push out after hours.

Some have PDQ Inventory groups like the Jabra Headset software - then I manually download and deploy like Jabber.
