NEVER seen this happen before… but all of a sudden today, Spice Works “forgot” the Windows Domain account to use for scanning Windows machines resulting in ALL devices showing as “Unknown”…

Further investigation revealed that the account nolonger existed at all and had to be re-created within Spice Works.

Anybody else ever see this / experienced it?

Some people have found this but I have not seen a full fix, if you want to send your logs to Spiceworks and they will have a look for you.

Did you manage to get this worked out? If so, can you mark the Best Answer and any Helpful posts?

If there isn’t a Best Answer, you can click the Action drop down at the top and select No Answer. That will remove the need for a Best Answer on this post.

Marking the Best Answer will remove the post from the list of message that still need answers thus making it a little cleaner and easier for us to filter through posts that need answers.

Naw… still haven’t figured it out yet. I’m still slogging through the forums trying to find the solution… as well as why Spiceworks seems to randomly “forget” which username and password to use when scanning machines. Also still digging into the poppular “rename a domain machine” issue where I end up with two machines with two different names but actually the same machine.

May end up just blowing out the database and starting from scratch. Nothing seems to resolve these problems on this installation. No big… and definately not the end of the world as we know it.

(And yes… DNS/WMI is fine… really… I’m pretty anal about keeping that stuff in good working order)

Upgrade to the latest version (4.7.52439) and see if that fixes the problem.

Ok… just did that. Will let it run a while and see what happens.

Ok… so far it looks like that update has fixed the problem. ONCE in a while it seems to “forget” which user account to use for a random device… but no more "20 or so all at once) anymore.

Will let it ride a while longer and see what happens.
