Anybody have a generator, diesel or natural gas? Management is close to approving the purchase however, they are looking for local SMB references to justify the purchase (or not) before pulling the metaphorical trigger.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

From talking to the person in charge, they primarily allowed the Contractor to take care of all of the requirements.

With that in mind, We do know that there was an eletrical inspection by the city, and perhaps a propane and natural gas inspection (we are required to have at least two forms of fuel for redunancy).

If you’re in question, you should be able to call the building inspector and ask what requirements, if any there are for installing a generator for your commercial location.

hope this helps.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

We do, but only for our Operating Rooms and emergency lighting. We have battery backup for the server room. If our office looses power for more than 1 hour we would cancel appointments for the day (or until power was restored).

{"@type":"Person
Dashrender
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Dashrender"}},{"@type":"Answer

Okay, I think the primary concerns our management has is the safety precautions/regulations, if any, that apply to having a generator. Obviously the company that installs it would cover maintenance, etc. but are there any other “compliance” guidelines that need to be followed?

{"@type":"Person
brads8209
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/brads8209"}},{"@type":"Answer

we have a Generator also test runs every Monday. and the contractor comes out I think 2 times a year to check it out and do maintenance.

although not every outlet is on the Generator we have enough that we could get the job done,

also unless you have backup batteries (UPS) you will still get brown out scenarios at the desks, during the switchover time. also still need battery backup for servers .

Another thing is space, and noise our Generator takes up a lot of outside space and is noisy. also the switching mechanism inside takes up a lot of wall real estate.

{"@type":"Person
richlarson0400
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/richlarson0400"}}]}}
