We use Barracuda Client Access for our VPN. We had a user who can’t connect. I initially thought something was just misconfigured on his tablet, so I had him bring it in. Configuration was right, but he couldn’t connect. The error we get is “Could not connect to…Handshake Request Timeout” I configured another entry(thinking something had somehow become corrupted. Same error. I tried logging in as myself, and it worked. I installed the client on a loaner laptop and got the same results - I can login with my account, but not his. He said it worked fine until last Saturday. Of course, he didn’t change anything. What would block ONE specific user from being able to connect? Thanks!

Check your firewall for his account still being connected. Terminate it if you find it.

Otherwise, update the VPN client he is using to the latest. I’ve seen my people able to use the NAC client for a number of years and then it stops working. This is the first thing I do. That is usually the solution, so I chalk it up to either WIndows Updates bringing something in this month or when I update the firmware I raised the bar for minimum version above theirs.

Thanks for the reply, Jim! Now just I have to figure out how to connect to our firewall. The IP address I thought it was won’t let me connect, even though I can ping it. I don’t think it could be a client version issue when I could login to that same device just fine with my username…

Maybe wrong password or maybe the account for barracuda is disabled.

The password is right - I can login to both local machines with his username/password. But since I still can’t seem to connect to the Barracuda device, I have no way of knowing if his account is somehow blocked on IT. How would that happen, anyway? Frustrating…

Barracuda firewalls are managed with the ngadmin.exe program. Get it from the https://login.barracudanetworks.com site in the same place you get the VPN client. ngadmin is a Windows-only program. You will either connect to the firewall directly at its IP address or the Barracuda Control Center. If you’re looking for the firewall, the first place to try would be where the default route IPv4 address points. It is common practice for that to be at .1 within the numbering range for the local network.
The version of ngadmin.exe needs to be equal to can be higher than the firmware on your devices.
What credentials you use will depend on what is set up in your network. Your firewalls may be integrated with something like AD, so It could be your AD user credentials or a just a local (NGF in Barracuda parlance) account.
If your company maintains a contract to get energizer updates, you have access to tech support. They get my highest marks for being available, smart and quite able to help. They are my gold standard – that whih I judge my other vendors.
