Hey All,

One of my users has been having a weird issue with services not starting up. we have a workflow management system called applied Epic. this program requires 5 services running in the background to work correctly. fore everyone else in the company that uses this program the services startup automatically with the startup of the system, every now and then one or two of them wont but 99% of the time it works just fine. for this one user, any time he starts his computer they are not started, they are set on automatic startup in the services menu. the only thing i could find that might not be letting them startup is in msconfig his computer is set to selective startup. the problem there though, is even if i switch it to normal startup and hit apply it swaps back down to selective startup immediately after hitting apply. any of you very intelligent people have any ideas i might be missing. this is mostly annoying to me because every Wednesday and Thursday nights we have the computers set to restart for maintenance and updates so Thursday and Friday i will have to go to his computer and start the services manually.

also just to help you guys out here’s some info on his system, Windows 10 Pro joined to the domain. group policies in place but none that block any services. if you guys have any questions for me ill reply back as soon as i can.

p.s. if this is in the wrong group I’m sorry i wasn’t completely sure where to put it.

3 Spice ups

If this user logs onto another machine , does it work? If somebody else logs onto his machine does it work?

Have you checked what account the service runs under?

Once the computer is started up and you manually start the services does the program work correctly? Just trying to rule out if maybe the services are crashing or not starting because they are broken/corrupt.

You could check event viewer for service startup errors.

Usually this is because the service failed to start in its startup threshold, 30 seconds by default i think. Could be due to lots of login processes, slow hdd, etc.

You can set them to Automatic(Delayed Start) to see if that fixes it.

yeah once they are manually started they work fine.

i will test this out, didnt think to try that.

also a great idea. thanks everyone so far, ill get back to you as soon as ive tested things.

Hello, fellow humans! i have tested the things.

when i logged in as another user it didn’t change anything. i checked the event viewer for these services, there is an error when starting that says something along the lines of, Transport error Remote Server Host severed connection. or something like that i cant remember the specific wording. i set the services to automatic delayed start to see if that will change anything but wont have a definite answer until he restarts next. based off the error i saw is there any ideas from you guys?

Hey Anyone have any new ideas for me? he is still having issues with them.
