I’m looking for a solution to get users that might be out of the office for a day or two access to their work computer at their desk. I know TeamViewer can do the job but was wondering about pricing. We have around 50 users in the office but normally wouldn’t have more than three or four every couple of weeks that would need to access their system remotely. There might be rare times where there would be more than that needing access to their systems but I don’t see it being that often.

It looks like on the pricing page that even with the corporate version I can only have 3 people on at the same time and it is an additional $1200 for each additional user on top of the $$3600 price tag. Does this sound correct or am I reading this wrong?

I believe that is right. We have the 3 user license. However the big catch with TeamViewer is you are only paying for that version. For instance you but the 3 user license for Teamviewer 11, when 12 comes out, and it constantly asks you to update, you will not be able to connect to that newer version so you have to be sure nothing ever updates. It’s the reason we are moving away from it.

Why not just setup a VPN and have the users Remote Desktop into their workstations? If you have a business class router and or server, chances are you already have that capability with zero cost.

I’m with chris on this one

Make sure all your PC’s have names that are easy to remember and in the DNS. Tightent up your VPN rules to only allow RDP traffic, make sure you have the PC’s set up to not allow remote resources to connect with RDP. You can do that through group policy.

If really don’t want user systems with Direct access, Sopho’s UTM has a cool sslvpn option that lets you set up an RDP session via the firewall so the user gets an RDP session through browser. I’m sure other firewalls have it as well, just the only one I’ve played with where I was happy how it worked.

Your use case is to enable remote access for about 50 users / computers.

You might consider Splashtop Business for Remote Support with computer-based pricing, which allows for unlimited concurrency and free secondary users (besides IT)… based on our pricing chart below, it’s $199 per year for 50 computers that you need to enable remote access. Users can use PC/MAC/iOS/Android/Chromebook/Linux devices to remote access their computers. We operate a global relay infrastructure w/ web based manageability console for you the manage / audit the traffic. I’m here to answer any quesiton.

Thanks everyone.

I didn’t know that about having to purchase the newest version of TeamViewer every time it comes out. That could get expensive quick. What are you looking at switching over to favisconti?

Everyone that would be RDPing in over the VPN would be doing so FROM their own home system TO their work system so that would mean I would need to put the Cisco VPN client on their home system. I thought it was bad practice to setup just any system on the VPN. As of now I only allow company purchased and maintained systems on the VPN.

Thanks Mark,
I posted my response just after you did and didn’t see your response. We do have users using their own personal versions of SplashTop and I believe everyone is happy with it. Let me look a little further in to this and I’ll be getting back with you. That’s an incredible price compared to the one in my original post.

You can use Remote Utilities, and only pay for admin licenses for your technicians. Whereas occasional users can access their PCs for free using a free license key, which will not interfere with your admin keys.

More about RU licensing .

You might want to try Techinline - it allows you to access up to 150 unattended remote computers with a single license for as low as $300 per year. The essential part is that the license is not tied to any user or specific machine, which means that it can be shared between these three or four users (at a different time though) to access their computers from basically anywhere. 15-day free trial available. Please feel free to ask any questions.

A few differences between Splashtop Personal vs Splashtop Business:

  • Business includes manageability / history / grouping features; group purchase
  • Business includes file transfer (and soon remote print windows/mac-to-windows/mac)
  • Business includes Chrome browser remote access
  • Business allows for commercial usage

Whether Personal or Business, users enjoy high performance HD remote access.

This is the exact reason that I have switched as well, I have a TV9 license, and while TeamViewer does work well and has some great features I would occasionally hit the 3 concurrent users and be blocked out until someone else completed their session. I just bought a Splashtop subscription. TeamViewer additionally keeps raising the price on new versions.

Overall I have been very happy with Splashtop so far, I would second it as well, it’s a good product.

TV are also looking like they are changing their licensing to subscription model also. (outside USA they already have)

be warned!

Please look into Lepide remote admin tool that is also free and would be a good choice for you.

TurboMeeting comes with a floating license so you only need licenses for the concurrent sessions. An entry level system should handle your needs well. Less that $2K purchase and $400 per year after the first year. If interested, you can find more on the configurations here.
