Anyone know if the R715 supports standard SAS or SATA disks?

I can prolly scrounge caddies from other servers, but id rather to avoid the premium for dell certified drives.

It just have the default PERC h200 controller

Its not for production, just a nested ESXi lab server.

You can use 2.5” SATA SSD, SAS (10K, 15K), nearline SAS (7.2K), SATA (7.2K), SAS 512e (15K)

I buy the drives used on eBay. I do have an old PE2900 running standard WD SATA drives, OMSA squawks about it.

Ok, so there is no vendor locking on the controller? i recall dell did that a few years ago, and im just not gonna invest in stuff, if its able to run!

I didn’t think that was possible?

Dell uses Seagate (just branded). I’ve used non-Dell branded drives with their controllers with no problems. Just make sure you buy the right drive. You can’t mix SATA with SAS (for example) and you don’t want to mix different sizes and RPM.

If it’s 2.5" you’re probably going to end up with Toshiba’s.
