Why would you still be using 2012 anyway, if you’re building new hosts, move the licensing server.<\/p>\n
I think you misunderstand the backwards compatibility part too.<\/p>\n
Your license server is backwards compatible with older licenses, not your newer licenses being compatible with older servers.<\/p>\n

Your license server must be of Server 2022 or later in this instance. The access can grant access to 2012r2

Nope, the host and vm’s are all server 2012r2. I believe my boss bought a server 2022 cals was because he thought it would be backwards compatible.
