I am looking for an alternative RDP client for a MacBook Pro M2. The Microsoft RDP client from the app store is laggy to the point of being unusable, whether user is on LAN connecting to VM, or VPN connecting to VM. User does not use external peripherals, which can cause this issue. Your suggestions are most appreciated.

It is not free, but it does the trick

RDP Client:

Remote Desktop Manager - Remote Connection Management (devolutions.net)

If you want a free solution, I recommend NoMachine. I use it at home in my wild environment of linux and windows clients, but there is a mac version, too.
It is not RDP based. You will need to install it on every machine, that is involved. Then you can access it over LAN.

NoMachine - Download Free Remote Desktop Access

Other tools (without RDP) are TeamViewer and RustDesk

I’ve seen good results with LogMeIn/GoTo which is not free. I’ve personally used it quite a bit to control a Windows machine remotely from Mac, Windows, and iPad.

Hey @jerrygartner0819

Be sure to check out Pulseway’s Remote Control tool. It enables remote control from any device and we have just had an update that enhanced the control feature for MACos and linux.

If you have any question please let me know and if you want to try it out you can start a trial here

Thank you for the suggestions. We want to keep control of the connection end to end, thus VPN and RDP. I will have a look at NoMachine I’ll also have a look at Remote Desktop Manager - I already use this on my daily driver. It’s so ubiquitous to me that I didn’t even think about it as an option.

Have you considered using RD Web Access? It is platform-independent (browser), does not require installing any additional software, and works perfectly in Safari.

I know this is an old thread, but I just found this article Best Remote Desktop App for Mac | HelpWire for Free and Secure Remote Access with some solid free remote access options. I was looking for a Teamviewer alternative and thought it might help someone else too.
