I am going to be replacing my laptop and am looking for some recommendations. Like most IT professionals out there, I use the typical Office productivity stuff, Visio, etc. I have had a hp/compaq nx6125 for the last 2.5 years and have been mildly satisfied with it. Can anyone give me some solid recommendations? I am leaning toward a Dell, I have always gotten very good performance/service from them.

I just picked up a new Dell Latitude E6500, fully loaded. Couldnt be happier with it, great performance and AWESOME battery life. IMO you can’t beat Dell’s service.

Save yourself some money and go look at the dell outlet, instead of buying ‘new’. I picked up a nice unit for well under $1000 about a year ago, they have a 1 year warranty still, don’t let the 90 day disclaimer fool you. I’m not a big fan of Dell so I’m going to say stick with HP. They have some really nice new commercial/business grade laptops out now. You can also contact HP customer support and get a list of refurbished PC’s/laptops for half the cost of new (all still with warranty’s) I have always had wonderful customer service with HP and never ever had a problem finding driver or updates for any of our hardware.

But it’s all about what you like! I say stick with what works for you!

In my old place, staff had Dell D410’s, Tech had D420’s / D430’s. The docking station is robust and the whole package is thin and light enough to carry around with you. Quite small, so a KVM on the desk is advisable, but more than portable for trips on public transport etc.

I have to agree with David3149, I suggested the Dell outlet store to one of my daughters and she got a sweet deal It was an inspiron 1525 (I think) but had 2GB RAM and 320GB HDD, Intel C2D, the other usual stuff Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Windows XP Pro, and 1 year factory warranty. You have to shop a little and or accept what you get if you pay a lower price but I think she paid all of under $500. Bucks and the system looks like new. They warn you that some of the systems are “out-of-the-box” but you will know when looking at them, just do your homework.

Beyond that in the last few companies I have worked for, they have all been Dell shops and the experience with support overall has been good
