Is it possible to recover files from a local OneDrive folder when OneDrive isn’t running?

Windows is broken to the point where it won’t boot and it’s a horrible Optane machine that I don’t currently trust to repair Windows on.

I just want to recover the data so I can replace the Optane drive with pure SSD with a clean install of Windows 10.

I can boot to a command prompt and have managed to copy off other non-OneDrive folders to a USB drive.

However it won’t let me copy off the contents of the OneDrive folder. It hadn’t finished uploading recent changes so I do need to recover the local copies. In the command window I get an error message saying it couldn’t access the folder.

I think it’s the same issue Windows has with copying the contents of an orphaned OneDrive folder where it usually says " The Cloud File provider is not running".

I can list the files in a command prompt, but it won’t let me copy them.

Is there a way? Command prompt preferred as Windows won’t boot and I can’t mount the drive on another machine as it’s part of the dodgy Optane RAID array.

When you’re in command prompt, run a tool called snapshot (from drivesnapshot.de). Create a full image, which you can mount and read on another machine.
This tool has saved my hide quite often.

Boot to a Live Linux system. If the drive was not encrypted and the section holding the files is not too damaged you should be able to get at them.
