Is it possible to collect data from a remote site that does not have a permanent VPN back to head office. I am running a main site on port 8888 and a remote site on port 80 and would like to centralise the data gathering.

Setup a remote collector at the far side.

Not sure how to time the updates however.

How would he setup the updates back to the central server? If the VPN connection isn’t constant? Could it be scheduled some how?

Using the remote collector he just needs to open the HTTPS port to the web and no VPN is needed :slight_smile:

And is secure is all data goes over HTTPS

Remote Collectors do not require a VPN data is transportd by default through SSL and a HTTP connection is required initially to create the connection between the master and remote, only a web/intermet connection is required.

Most VPNs can be configured to be openned on demand if there is not internet connection and only a point to point VPN.

As said above no VPN is needed for collectors since the data is transported using HTTPS (SSL).

Decided to do it now rather than later. Works a treat. My error was using 8888 as the port number on the collector for the central server rather than 8889 for SSL. A new rule on the firewall and it works. Thanks
