I am looking for a web based remote desktop software through which i can login from anywhere using internet access to give support to my company uses on their PCs / Laptops. Where they are in office (Private Network) or Internet (public network).

Spiceworks free software has 2 great feature of asset inventory and help desk that are very useful to fulfill my requirements.

Is there any kind of remote pc / laptop control feature from Spiceworks available as well.

Kindly help.

Thanks

Waseem

LogMeIn is a nice option. Another tool that can come in handy is JoinMe, which allows you to assist a user even if the computer is not on your network. They just need a browser and an internet connection for them to share their screen with you.

Spiceworks partners with LMI’s Rescue product, so that’s available within the software.

Outside of it you have join.me (also LMI)

If you do a lot of remote support i like GoToAssist, it’s designed for MSPs and very “Client friendly”.

Teamviewer is another option.

Reverse VNC is your only real freeware solution though , the others above are basically paid (join.me is free)

Works pretty well and is not very expensive.

I use LogMeIn central, IIRC it is $250/year for unlimited LMI free licenses to be managed centrally. While Pro has a lot of really nice features, the cost was prohibitive for me, and I can offer remote support or get onto another segment of our network easily with the free version.

It is easily the best $250 I have spent.

There’s also TeamViewer.

Teamviewer is free for personal use for limited time (I think 5 min) per session.

Personally, I prefer Team Viewer over Logmein.

No Teamviewer has a corperate license i have it. The only issue i have with it is i have version 6 and if a customer of mine runs say the free edition of version 7 then Version 6 can’t conntect with 7 so i have a quick client link embeded in our website and i get the cusrtomers to run that file that way it’s always running version 6.

but when it works it works

best of luck

Dear All,

Thanks for your kind suggestions; i have a distributed network of 130 users / systems across 8 sites connected through VPN and higher management across the internet occasionally, when they are traveling. we have a team of 2 IT admin to support from a central location (i.e. our head office). in order to support remotely i was using Logmein free for 6 months, all users were registered under single account and i was very happy with it, since i don’t need to share any details before getting the session. Last week, logmein send me a message that my 130 users logmein account will be reduced to 10 free accounts and i have to upgrade it to paid version which is very expensive for me.

I have tried teamviewer but i prefer to connect directly without sharing any details before session…

Thanks.

When you need to connect with them is it safe to assume they will have made a VPN connection first? If so go with some derivative of VNC. It has been around a long time, is free, and very reliable.

If on the other hand you have to connect to them either before they have a VPN connection or you can spend a bit of money, I would also mention Bomgar at http://www.bomgar.com/. They aren’t cheap but it is a rock solid solution perfect for the type of environment you are specifying here.

That’s a LMI product. #justsayin

Teamviewer has an “unattended server” version, but dont let the name fool you. It can be installed on a windows machine. I currently have it on 138 machines. Works great, and I dont have to bother the end user to get a code.

Join.me for quick or temporary access when nothing else is available, then Logmein Free tied to a Central account for long term use.
