Recently we’ve been analyzing ads that are performing well and ads that don’t. Some of what we’ve learned is that ads that speak directly to “Spiceworks” or “Spiceheads” seem to do much better than traditional “brand” messaging.
I’d like to see if you’re willing to share a screen capture of 1 of your favorite ads on Spiceworks and post it in this thread with a couple of thoughts on why this ad works for you. I’ll kick it off.
Thanks in advance!

I think that you will find that if it is a “SpiceWorks Meme” based ad, like the one above, it makes it painfully obvious that the vendor is participating and “gets” the community. Ads that don’t do this might be, and likely are, just standard ads used elsewhere. Nothing wrong with that, but a vendor, like Unitrends, who clearly took the time to understand us and tailor their marketing JUST for us is just in a different league.

I’ve noted this one a couple of times. Gets your attention right away and has a simple call-to-action.

I agree, what this shows is that they listen to what is going on in the community in a broad sense and not just to things directed at them. This makes it easy for me to believe that the vendor would listen in other scenarios such as discussing a solution for my needs.

I’ve been bombarded with ads most of my life, i’m totally blind to them, i actually had to double-check i didn’t have ABP enabled for Spiceworks (it isn’t). The few that catch me are the “anti-ads”. The ones that do unexpected things, or show you things in a different way (like Dennis’ example).
If it doesn’t look like an ad, i’m probably going to actually acknowledge it’s existence.

Completely agree, but giving peppers just wasn’t enough! Very well said, to both of you.
