Hello all, ok, so I don’t know much of anything about a MAC and try to keep it that way, lol, but our web designer uses one and I can’t get Spiceworks to recognize it. I followed the instuction here: http://community.spiceworks.com/help/Get_A_Complete_Inventory#Apple with no luch it just shows up as an unknown. Any help or insight to this would be greatly appreciated, this is more than likly an easy fix, but like I said I know nothing about MAC’s. I don’t have a lot of access to it because our designer’s a real… well lets not go down that road, I’m a state employee lol… Anywho any help would be great!

Did you happen to see this article?

Macs use SSH to authenticate so you might have to enable that (and get an admin username and PW from the developer) in order for Spiceworks to properly scan. Let me know if that doesn’t help!

Loope,

You should just need an account with normal user privileges in order to scan a Mac system with Spiceworks.

You will have to make sure SSH is enabled and that the user account is authorized to allow remote access with SSH.

This may help:

I do think that I have enabled SSH, but don’t remember doing anything for Remote Access. I will give both a try. Thanks!

Ok, so I tried both, but I was having trouble with Step 4 of the instuctions linked by Cole. I checked the System Preferences > Network but could not find anything under Ethernet about WINS or NetBios, there was no Advanced option to choose. It is still showing up as Unknown, Network device with no known services.

WooHoo no I lied I went back and tested the user name and password again and now its good. Probably will never touch it again except for updates if needed, but I’m stoked that its not Unknown anymore! Thanks!

Loope,

Glad you were able to get it working!

Did you try going through the information I sent you to enable Remote Login from that other article? If you are having trouble still I can go take a look at one of the Mac systems up here and try and help you out with the exact details.
