I have not used SW in about a year.

Installed latest version, deleted data and db directories and copied backup data and db to SW directory. On startup SW reports:

A problem occurred during the Spiceworks update.

have you tried reinstalling spiceworks and then reimporting the data and db backup?

I did as their instruction say. Install, don’t login, delete data and db, then copy data and db directories from backup.

Done.

make sure you still have you backup

do a complete uninstall

run something like ccleaner or easy cleaner or your prefered program

clean everything with it (thourough and deep)

then re-install spiceworks and bring back in your data

Uninstalled reinstalled, cleaned with CC but it was new setup on Win7 so not much cleanup on disk or reg neccesary. Problem resolved though. I think what was happening was I was coping the db and data files from a zip file on a network drive into the program files folder. You have probably noticed what happens when you try to do that. Nothing! Looks good, but nothing happens. Annoying, Would have been nice for MS to say something like wont copy strange files from an untrusted source, or something instead of the … head fake. Anyhow copied zip to local and then copied data files and two updates later I’m 5.0.
