Hi,

I have a client who has bought (without consulting) 10 samsung tab and will be giving to marketing department for customer feedback program. Ofcourse, the tab has 4g ready but with data limit. is there anyway to lock down everything except browser with only 1 official website to work for tab ?

I did try google apps policies but it cannot cover up everything due to “samsung”, besides tried “screen pinning” option but then again after reboot its back to normal access to end user. A third party solution would also be enough. Thank you.

because of the data side, i would look at Samsung Knox, since it’s already integrated, or possibly another commercial MDM solution.

Definitely going to need an MDM. You can lock down the tablet from them doing anything but rebooting it or running the one app.

Will try with knox by creating another profile for users if that helps but any other way of creating a policy for only 1 website should be able to work through internet browser ?

Alright this is what I did. Installed Knox app locker through which I locked down crucial apps which might consume high data if in use.
Besides, installed Trend Micro security which helped with blacklisting websites on any internet browser.

If you find you need added security, you may want to consider kiosk system software like KioWare for Android which utilizes the KNOX features and turns the tablet into a purposed device - locking them down to only the allowed website or application. Perpetual licenses (for KioWare Lite for Android) in the quantity of 10 are $33.75 per license (one-time license purchase with optional annual support). KNOX has some great features, and KioWare allows you to take advantage of them while also allowing you to update the configuration remotely when needed (using a remote settings file), utilize session resets/restarts, add an attract screen for when the tablet is in sleep mode, add a custom start page, clear user data, and more.

Other kiosk system software will work as well, though I’m not sure if others have KNOX support.

This is how I achieved the solution I was looking for.

  1. Installed knox app locker which instantly locks everything on startup or during usage. It has a special option of creating a separate password for certain apps allowed to user so they know how to unlock only apps they are allowed to use.

  2. To achieve restrictions to websites, we installed and tried Trendmicro internet security. Works great.
