I only have a 2003 A+ Cert and MCP (Windows XP), I’m considering returning to the field since working for 5 years doing a call center job. Is it worth it? How is the industry right now for IT jobs?

I’m in DFW and i’ve never had trouble finding jobs.

I did field service for over 20 years for Sharp Electronics (79-99). I miss the driving part the most. It made the day go by faster. Also the fact no two days were alike.

Back then there were no cell phones to track your time and location. Nevada and Wyoming were good places to work out of for me. You get lots of windshield time and plenty of sites to see along the way. When I lived in Cody WY the only traffic jams I got into on my way to work were caused by a herd of mule deer crossing the road in the middle of town. I didn’t mind waiting for that.

I still do a little field service on the side for friends and old employers.

Might be better to find your local SpiceCorps and ask them. Some geographic areas are much more heavily concentrated in IT, while others are not, and asking in the general forum area will not likely yield you useful results.

It’s like asking “how’s the automotive industry for jobs?” Well, are you in Boston, Miami, or Detroit? Or Honolulu? Chances are that the likelihood of getting a job with a car maker is higher in Detroit than Honolulu, so an answer of “IT’S GREAT!!!” won’t do you any good if the respondent is from Detroit and you’re in Oahu.

Actually, if you’re in Hawaii, why the hell would you want to work in automotive anyway?! :slight_smile:

Im in Los Angeles most of the time it’s usually contract or temp work but they sometimes convert to perm ive been at my job for 2 years full time perm before that ever since 2005 a lot of IT jobs tend to be oursource or temp unless you know someone usually how it works. Good luck all

Well, the industry should be okay in Buffalo, but I have no idea. Might want to wait for them to finish removing the snow first…is everyone still buried up there?
