I just read that Felix Baumgartner, famous for the highest parachute jump ever and being the first man to break the sound barrier outside of an aircraft–and a personal hero–died in a paragliding accident. An incredible adventurer.

True. And given the many things he did besides that for which he is most famous (highest parachute jump from a building, LOWEST base jump - 85 feet!) this was always the most likely way he would go.

Imagine, though, being an extreme athlete like this, but going out doing the least-dangerous thing (relatively speaking) he could be doing…not diving from the edge of space, but paragliding…

Paragliding is pretty dangerous. There was someone who died at my work a few weeks ago for it. It being deceptively safe is what let’s their guard down and they make mistakes or take risks.
