He, his wife and dog all died. He was 95.

Great actor of many many movies.

Yeah, I heard that on my way in this morning. I know they said they don’t suspect foul play, so the only thing I can think of is carbon monoxide poisoning or something. I can’t think of a single think I didn’t like him in. I actually hated the movie Unforgiven, but I loved his role in it.

He was very good in many movies. His performances in Unforgiven and The Firm really stand out for me. In The Firm, he was not a nice person, but you could still feel a lot of sympathy for him.

I didn’t realize he was 95.

Edited to add: Sometimes when he was playing a “bad” guy, it was almost as if his cruelty wasn’t because he was mean, but more meant to remind the world that life isn’t always fair - almost like, “I’m here just to remind you that everything isn’t sunshine and rainbows.”

He was in so many, it’s very hard for me to name a favorite. I suppose if it’s based purely on acting, it would be Mississippi Burning for me, but if just for fun, then The Birdcage. I know I saw the Firm, but I didn’t even remember him being in it. It’s been so long, and when I read the books first, I tend to remember them more than the details of the movies.

I think part of it might be that he was very un-Hackman-like in that movie.

It’s such a shame that Gene Hackman, his wife, and his dog are no longer with us. I can only suspect it was carbon monoxide poisoning, or something similar.

Also, what movie does this bring to mind?

"The Quick and the Dead"The Quick and the Dead (1995) - IMDb

Edit: For anyone wondering, I’m not making a joke based on the title of the movie. That’s a coincidence. I just watched “The Quick and the Dead” a few weeks ago. The first thing that struck me about this post was @HulkSmash 's avatar, Leonardo DiCaprio, played Gene Hackman’s son in that movie.

Drawing a blank. Help us out.

The Royal Tenenbaum’s is one of my favorites of his. Lex Luthor as well. Always was great.

RIP.

Michelle Trachtenberg (From Nickelodeon stuff when I was a kid among other films) yesterday and him today. Sad times for Hollywood.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Hoosiers as of yet.

The best villains are the characters who think they are the hero/victim of the story.

I can always see Gene Hackman’s characters and not see the actor. A true thespian.

Look at the two faces. They were in one (I think just one) movie together.

Isn’t it always in 3s? Eeek!
@The-Sith-Admin They did some coverage on Get Up this morning since it is possibly the 2nd best sports movie ever. I give the nod to The Miracle.
@ich-ni-san
EDIT: I also was not making fun of the situation.

Wait! I’ll make espresso!

I do remember him as Lex Luthor in Superman, but I think my favorite movie of his is The Quick and the Dead. Such an interesting film with great actors.

This was the first film that came to mind when I heard the news.

And the news about Trachtenberg was tragic and shocking to hear as well. Gone way too young.

My favorite movie from him was Uncommon Valor.

He played the father of a Vietnam POW and assembled a group of former veterans to go in and find his son.

Well just saw a headline that they consider this “suspicious”

:astonished: I hadn’t heard about that! She was way definitely too young to have been gone already. I mostly just knew of her from Buffy the Vampire Slayer because me and other friends watched a lot of shows created by Joss Whedon back then. I looked up an article and forgot that she was in EuroTrip too.
