I am new to Spiceworks and am having problems with scanning computers. I have 225 workstations (mostly XP Pro) and the vast majority are getting scan errors. The most common error is “Authentication failed for user administrator”. I have tried running “netsh firewall set service remoteadmin enable” on nearly every workstation and on a domain controller created the GPO:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Network Connections > Windows Firewall > Domain Profile - Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception = Enabled

I included all of my subnets in the GPO

Does anyone have any suggestions for me. All responses would be appreciated.

Check the firewall on your Spiceworks server. Also, make sure that you are able to ping the computers from your Spiceworks server. Double check that you don’t have any typos in your account.

Start here .

It is most likely a WMI or account setting issue. You default scan account should have domain admin credentials.

This guide should cover just about any scan errors you encounter,

Thanks. Most of this material I have read before, but I’ll go through it again.
