When I attempt to search I get an application error.

I have tried the following

  1. Stop Spiceworks if it’s running (right click the Spiceworks tray icon and select Exit)

  2. Open Windows Task Manager and end the following processes if they are still running.

  3. spiceworks.exe

  4. SpiceTray.exe

  5. spiceworks-finder.exe

  6. Browse to the C:\Program Files\Spiceworks\db directory.

  7. Delete the index directory.

  8. Start Spiceworks and perform a search.
    9)Click the Rebuild Search Index (or Enable Search for some users) link on the right side of the page and wait for the process to finish. (If the Rebuild Search Index link does not display, enter the following URL in the browser and press the enter key to rebuild the search index.)
    http://ComputerName/search/rebuild_index

  9. Try searching again.

When I get to step 6 I have only database files there no directory for index. I have tried to create a blank index folder but this proves not to make it rebuild as when I tried to search step 9 never prompted me to rebuild search index.

I am on 7.5.00107

Indexes are part of the database so there wouldn’t be a separate folder for them. Are you getting these steps from a how to? Is it for a much older version of the app?

I did a search in the help section for the same issue. There was no new articles about any versions that were close to mine, so I followed the instructions as fixes to the community suggested. I can’t find the same article I found earlier but searching again all I am able to locate is older versions. What are my next steps since the ones I was able to locate aren’t valid for rebuilding my search database?

Depending on the underlying issue, our repair script can fix most database problems.

- Download the repair utility: https://www.sendthisfile.com/5svcQXJbSl9NQ9AjMfw1i7oM
- Right click the utility (DB_Repair.exe) and select “Run as Administrator”.
- Click “Yes” on the prompt that appears.


This will stop Spiceworks, make a backup of your database and run the repair.



The repaired database will replace the broken database, and will automatically be used the next time Spiceworks starts up.



Be sure to read the output of the script (especially the last few lines of info at the end of the repair), and then start Spiceworks. You can now test to see if the repair cured the issue you were having.



The backup created by the script is C:
Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\db
sw_prod_originalDAYMONTHYEAR_TIME.bak. If you need to restore to this backup, simply stop Spiceworks and rename the db directory to db.old. Create a new db directory and copy the .bak file into the new db directory. Rename the .bak file to spiceworks_prod.db and start up Spiceworks.
