Hello. I’m having an issue with my Sharepoint 2013 sites. The “Find an item” or “Find a document” search boxes are not working. When I search something it always return no results.

Any clue what I’m missing?

I’m not running your version, but check to see if it is setup and that the service is running. You can check that in Central Admin

Yes, the Search Application Service is running.

Gustavo,

When you open the Search Service Application under Manage Service Applications, are you seeing all green checks under Search Application Topology?

Yes, all the 6 checks are green

Have you tried stopping the SharePoint Server Search (Manage Services on Server), restarting the Search Service Application Pool (in IIS) and restarting the SharePoint Server Search (Manage Services on Server)?

I tried that, and still, no results. I was searching and I think it might be something about making the columns searchable with crawled properties.

Check one of the document libraries under Library Settings > Advances Settings to see if Allow items from this document library to appear in search results is set to yes.

If not, set it to yes and kick off a full crawl.

It’s set to yes already. I checked something strange. In Central Administration, in Search Service Application configuration it shows “Searchable items: 0”

Do you have any Content Sources configured? If so, do you have at least one using the URL used to access SharePoint entered in the Start Addresses (Search Service Application: Edit Content Source)?

Yes, I have my intranet URL as start address

Under Search Service Application: Search Administration Does the Default content access account have permission to the SharePoint Content database?

Yes, it has an account with permissionto the content database

What do you see under Search Service Application: Crawl Log - Content Source?

The link is in the left Quick Launch Under Search Administration > Diagnostics > Crawl Log

It shows 5 correct crawls and 2 errors. Are these errors the cause? Does this has not anything to do with the properties I mentoned earlier?

It’s hard for me to say without actually seeing what you’re seeing.

Have you started a full crawl and do you have crawl schedules configured? If not, kick off a full crawl (Content sources > drop-down arrow of content source > Start full Crawl.

It appears to have a current crawl in progress, because it’s not enabled the “Start full crawl” option. It appears as “Crawl completed” but the duration of current crawl is incrementing.

It may be hung. Is the crawl start time recent? If not, kill off the crawl and kick off a full crawl when it becomes available.

I started a new crawl but I think it’s hung because last crawl lasted about 1400 hours!

So you haven’t had a crawl complete in the past almost 2-months. How long has your SharePoint farm been running? If it’s about that old chances are there is a configuration error somewhere causing the crawls to hang.
