We are looking at installing Spicework on-prem for the the helpdesk ticketing and have no particular interest in the inventory. We will have 8 agents to handle the tickets and about 3000 stations.

We looked at the “optimal configuration” and it appears to require (relatively) little in the way of processor power or memory but asks for “high availability disks” and suggests SSD! Is a RAID array out of the question? We were hoping to virtualize tis server and this seems to preclude it. Any idea on IOPS for this application.

Any additional advise is figuring out server specs would be kindly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

The on premise version of SW is a single thread program. It does not require a lot of horsepower. A desktop would be sufficient to host what you are looking for. Since the inventory component is not needed, disable all the scan functions and monitoring selections and just run the helpless component. If need be, you could be up a second instance of SW premise and run your inventory scan on it and there are ways to use both at the same time. For example, if a printer is low on toner, your inventory server could sent and email notification to your helpdesk SW and automatically create a ticket.

{"@type":"Person
spiceuser-klhmz
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/spiceuser-klhmz"}},{"@type":"Answer

Their requirements are kinda wonky. You can use Spiceworks just fine with HDD’s, VM’s, RAID, etc… I’ve always put Spiceworks on a VM and I’ve never had any issues with it.

{"@type":"Person
dimforest
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/dimforest"}},{"@type":"Answer

The requirements are also based on the whole application being used, helpdesk will be fine with RAID and HDD, but this comes down to how many tickets you do daily and the likes, with inventory not being used the spec needed is far lower.

VMs are supported.

{"@type":"Person
Rod-IT
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Rod-IT"}},{"@type":"Answer

I run inventory and helpdesk. my specs are:

VM (vSphere)

2 CPU

8GB RAM

60GB vDisk from my SAN. (RAID 10 )

And it’s WAY over spec’d.

{"@type":"Person
anthony7445
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/anthony7445"}}]}}
