Ok I have spent 2 days going through all the trouble shooting steps in the different posts and everything on the desktop machines checks out just.

When I look at the network scans i pick up all the machines but when trying to connect i get “There was a Windows authentication error when attempting to connect to this device.”

I checked all the WMI and DCOM settings from the various posts that have been made and I am not getting any further as they all check out with what they should be according to those post’s.

I am running Spice works on a vista 64bit buisness woudl that cause any issues in the connection between my machine and the xp pro systems?

Thank you in advance for yourhelp.

Jeremy

3 Spice ups

try running wmidiag and going through that.

Also, here is a script that worked for me.

spiceconfig.bat (1.96 KB)

OK I ran that batch file along with the diag tool, and still get this error when trying to connect to the machine i ran those tools on "check account, password or WMI configuration"

I know the account is good cause i can log into the computer with that account via rdp or on the actual machine.

Thanks

Jeremy

  • Is the account a domain admin?
  • Have you got another account you can try?
  • Check the wmi permissions

Yes

Have done it with 3 domain admin accounts.

Check which ones, the ones on the boxes thenselfs, if so then I have done that also?

Thnks

Jeremy

This article helps with WMI permissions

Yeap did this one already also.

This is frustrating.

Thanks for your help.

  • Have you tried a local admin?
  • How about running the wmi check command locally?

Havent done that since it is a domain environment. I have ensured domain admins are listed unde radministrators on the local machines.

Did that

Is it possible that it’s something to do with vista trying to talk to xp pro machines

Shouldnt be… have you turned the UAC off on the vista box?

Actually no I haven’t on this one, should it be off?

OK so here’s an update. I finally installed SW on one of my servers and everything works flawlessly. So it is something to do with SW installed on my Vista 64bit. I will try to trouble shoot it later and see if I can figure it out more.

Thanks for the help!
