Most of our locations have a multifunction priner/fax/scanner. We set it up as network and the scanning is setup to save to a shared folder.
With Windows XP I share the folder, and give the user re/write permissions, then I enter the information in the printer (including the username:password to the share)
With Windows 7 though it will not connect. If I unselect the “automatic network login” it asks the user for username and password everytime they scan so apparently it can see the shared folder, but It won’t connect when I put the settings in the printer.
I am guessing it has something to do with authentication of the shared folders. In XP I have to disable the sharing wizard, otherwise it won’t connect, but with Windows 7 it doesn’t matter what I do it doesn’t want to connect. Suggestions? I am guessing it is similar to allowing a Linux client to save files to a shared folder in 7

Make sure you are putting the domain name in with the username or if it isn’t a domain use the computer name. Something like this: domain\username or computername\username.

I tried using computer\user format with no luck
the model is MFX-1450 with PCL card (the PCL card does make some changes to the firmware)

How do you point the MFP to share paths: NetBIOS, DNS or IP? Can MFP to resolve names?

\computername\share but the system automatically changes it //computername/share after I hit add
bytesnake I will try that later today (we have corporate meetings today). I have a feeling it might be the LAN manager

David, apparently you shouldn’t provide any credentials for shared folders. Have a look at this:
Muratec MFX-1450 PC User’s Guide :
Creating a shared folder (6-12)
To use ”Scan to folder” or “Scan to printer”, you will need to set up a shared folder.
Windows Vista
When the “Password protected sharing” is “On”, select “Turn off password protected sharing”
Select “Everyone (All users in this list)” from the list
Select “Everyone” as “Group or user names”, and allow “Full Control”.
Windows XP
Click the check box next to “Full Control” in “Permission for Everyone”.

I tried this (as a test) and still doesn’t work.
I don’t like the option of tuning off password protected sharing, bit I have it off now just in case. Folder is shared to everyone and everyone has full control (in the security tab as well).
The Windows XP machine do not need to have password protected sharing off, and the automatic network login works
So I really think it has something to do with the authentication type

Have a try to enter IP addresses instead of computer names.

I will try later today entering IP. But if I disable automatic logon it saves the settings, which means it finds the share. However it cannot login to it

I suppose, if MFP can’t resolve computer name with WINS server, it may get IP address from DNS server and try to establish connection with an internet site. I’d analyse it with Wireshark.
Another vote for the ScanSnap 1500. Of course I’m biased.
If the price is an issue, you might consider a refurb. Same scanner but just doesn’t come with Adobe Acrobat and 90 day warranty.

quick update. So I haven’t gotten it to work yet however I do have it working in a different location also with Windows 7. I am going to have to compare the 2 locations to see what is different
