I have a weird issue. I created a shared folder for an application and created a security group containing the people who would need to access the share. I gave the group full permissions to the share, but the permissions did not work. They could access the share, but did not have write permissions. I tried adding the individual users with the same permissions and no problems. I verified the group replicated to the other DCs, but I’m not sure why the group isn’t working when the individual users are.

4 Spice ups

Don’t do it via share permissions, but rather NTFS permissions. Give something like authenticated users read/write to the share and then lock the NTFS permissions down to the group.

Also, I’ve seen that the new groups users sometimes need to logout/login to have the new group security applied to their account.

Have the user logout, login, and try accessing the share again.

Have you checked the NTFS security permissions?

I’ve set the NTFS and Share permissions to be the same for the group.

Had similar issue this morning, user needs to log out and in to pick up group membership. I had added users individually to get around the issue/investigate but got told off.

Little side note - share permissions and group memberships require a log on/off to apply. Explicit NTFS permissions apply real time w/out having to relog.

Yep, that’ll happen… lol.

I had logged off and on a few times as well as rebooted their PC with the same results.

What type of group did you create

There is a difference between security and distribution and also whether these are domain or global groups

It was set up as a global security group

Time to start posting pics, because that sounds odd now. If you want, you can create hide the names.

Had this same issue, Explicit Perms to user worked fine, to group didnt work at all.

Easy Fix is like stated above, for Share Perms give either Authenticated users, Domain Users R/W or Full and set the NTFS perms with the groups you want to have access…
