I have a Samsung Galaxy tablet that we use for cooking and meal planning in the kitchen. So most of the time, the tablet is not being used. However, every few days, I have to charge the battery even if the tablet has not been used for several days.

I looked at battery saver mode and it would seem that this only really helps when actually using the tablet.

Windows computers have the ability to put the system to sleep or hibernate. Yet curiously enough, there doesn’t seem to be an equivalent option in tablets. Does Android 14 or Samsung Galaxy have an option to put the tablet into deep sleep or hibernate, so it doesn’t use any battery until we actually need it. I could switch it off, but Android 14 is slow to boot up. My phone which is running Android 8, is much faster to boot up.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

yeah android tablets, including those from Samsung running Android 14, don’t really have a traditional “hibernate” mode like Windows computers. They do have a feature called “Doze mode” which significantly reduces battery consumption when the device is idle. When your tablet is stationary, not charging, and not being used for long periods, it automatically goes into Doze mode to conserve battery. This mode restricts network access and defers background tasks and syncs until a maintenance window or until you start using the device again.

Also I know that Samsung devices have specific features that allow further control over battery usage. Apps that you haven’t used for a while are put to sleep, meaning they won’t run in the background or receive updates, reducing their battery usage and you can manually add apps to the deep sleeping apps list. These apps won’t run in the background at all unless you open them.

{"@type":"Person
stefan-pulseway
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/stefan-pulseway"}},{"@type":"Answer

Thanks for the feedback. I still find that I have to charge the tablet every few days even if the tablet has not been used at all for several days. We only use it for cooking as and when we need the recipe. It just seems like tablets could have a better hibernate mode than what they have.

{"@type":"Person
RMDTECH
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/RMDTECH"}}]}}
