Hello,

I need some help with the software inventory feature in spiceworks. I am trying to do an audit on our office licenses on our network. We have mostly CD licenses so many many different keys, but spiceworks does not seem to see the computers various keys. I was hoping maybe one of you used spiceworks to audit your license utilization, and can point me in the right direction to get this to work! If not maybe by suggesting KNOWN good audit software that I can use to verify my license excel file with what actually in use on our network. Thank you!

Spiceworks will function just fine for you, especially if you’re using Active Directory in your environment.

Check out this help doc if you’re having problems with the scan: http://community.spiceworks.com/help/Resolving_Unknown_Devices

I have the computers visible, as well as the software, but it just isn’t showing the installed license keys.

Are these Microsoft products? Adobe? Others?

Microsoft is the only key that shows up reliably in Spiceworks. To manage the others, you have to enter them manually with your invoices (which is what you should be doing anyway since that covers your assets in case of an audit). See: http://community.spiceworks.com/university/tutorials and http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/1219-prepare-for-a-software-compliance-audit

They are microsoft, but the keys are not showing up.

If you navigate to a device in your Spiceworks’ inventory (one that’s turned on) and use the wrench to show running processes, does it work to show processes? If it does, use the wrench again to rescan and wait 10 minutes before you refresh that device’s page and use the wrench to show the complete profile. If that doesn’t work, email Spiceworks support@spiceworks.com and they can look in to it further.

Hey Brad,

Did you have any luck viewing your licenses after taking the steps that Grey mentioned?

No, the scan is working and the devices are there with processes, but no licenses.

Hey Brad,

Which applications are you trying to track? Are these Office 2013 installs? We’re currently seeing some issues with pulling Microsoft Office 2013 licenses.

Mostly office 2010, but also office 2013.

Hey Brad,

Sounds like it might be a good idea for us to get a copy of your logs and see what’s going on. Hang tight and we’ll shoot over an email with steps on getting those to us.
