I am relatively new to Solarwinds, and i am trying to group together our network components related to our various applications in order to better monitor the health of the application as a whole. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to go about doing this? There is a lot more that I want to learn about Solarwinds but there is a lot to it and i am not sure what the best path to take is. Thank you all in advance! PS: Solarwinds is just the monitoring solution that my company went with before i came along, so this is what I have to work with.

Hello Ashley, I would choose what is important to monitor 1st for example: servers, storages, switches, firewalls; and what really matter on each one: processor, memory, swap, throughput, etc After that you would create a new dashboard and get deep into Solarwinds. I hope it helps you.

Are you using Solarwinds for MSPs?
Prioritise what applications are needed and then what in each application is critical for it’s running, start there and go through them all. As for Solarwinds training, speaking as a Solarwinds Certified Professional, all their training is on their YouTube channel and their website forum (Thwack), the exam is open book and can be taken at home or in you office, email certifications@solarwinds.com requesting a link to the exam when you are confident. It is not all about Solarwinds, it does ask about SNMP and WMI, placement of nodes etc. I would also recommend you post on their forum and the Thwack users, just like here, are a very helpful bunch!
