We are currently using SonicWall TZ570 unit from past 4 years.

We never had a HA (high availability) unit.

If we buy another unit as HA (TZ570), do we now have to pay the yearly subscriptions for the HA unit as well along with the primary unit ?

Any other suggestions are welcome

I found this on Sonicwall’s website:

High Availability (HA) Firewalls are intended to be used as a Secondary Unit in an HA Pairing between an active and backup unit. When associated as a pair, any licenses on the Primary are shared with the Secondary Device. This system provides our Customers and Partners the opportunity to reduce their overall Security costs, while offering critical redundancy to avoid service outages in case of any problems.

Due to this reduced cost, however, High Availability Devices have certain restrictions when compared to a Standalone Unit. HA Appliances cannot accept their own licensing, and it is not possible to apply most Activation Keys to an HA Unit. For this reason, it is recommended to buy a device labeled as High Availability (HA) only if you intend to pair it with a Standard Firewall.

So, it appears that you do not need to purchase additional licensing. Also, instead of purchasing a standard unit (which includes licensing) you can order an “HA” unit at a reduced cost. I haven’t done this, so I can’t tell you exactly how or what part numbers to order.
