Hello, I have a TZ 170. I reset to default IP of 192.168.168.168 and can access in a browser but it boots into safe mode. When I try to boot to either of the 2 default firmware images I get the error "Status: Warning! Invalid firmware boot option. How can I reset to factory default settings and boot into normal mode so I can run the setup wizard?

Update-I was able to register and download the firmware. I can upload the firmware successfully. When I try to boot to the firmware, I get a message that reads it will take 1 to 2 minutes, but when I press OK to boot to the firmware nothing happens. There is no progress bar. It just goes back to safe mode screen. Any suggestions? Or should I trash this unit?

Maybe chance calling Sonicwall support and see what happens. If you were able to register the device, they may help with a firmware problem.

I would just scrap it and start with a new firewall, you wouldn’t want to trust an iffy device… If you want to stick with Sonicwall. I think the TZ200 is still current.

Did you make sure you got the correct firmware? There was an Enhanced OS and a standard OS version. The device had to be licensed for the correct one. I once screwed up and loaded the wrong one and had to load the other one to get it working again. Typically you shouldn’t be able to DL the wrong one, but we had units with both versions.

I called support but they wont help without a valid support contract. Its licensed for the Standard OS. I downloaded all of the firmware files and even tried to boot from the original firmware. I posted in the Sonicwall forum as a last resort. I only planned to use it at home so it really doesn’t matter. Thank you for your help.

Thought this might be useful for you - might be able to get a cheaper new TZ series unit out of it.
