Today in History:

On October 23, 2001, Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Computer, unveiled a revolutionary device that would change the way people listened to music. The iPod, with its sleek design and 5 GB hard drive, was a game-changer in the world of MP3 players. With the ability to store up to 1000 songs in your pocket, the iPod was a dramatic increase over competing players. The Firewire port allowed for simultaneous charging and high-speed music synchronization, making it innovative for its time. The original iPod only worked with Macintosh computers, but its popularity among Windows users prompted Apple to release a Windows-compatible version in the second generation of iPods.

The iPod’s success was not just due to its hardware features. In June of 2003, Apple introduced the iTunes Music Store, which allowed users to purchase and download music directly to their iPods. This feature completely changed the landscape of the music and computer industry. The runaway success of the iPod made it clear that people were willing to pay for digital music, and it paved the way for other digital music services like Spotify and Pandora.

Before the iPod, there were several other MP3 players available in the market. The first portable digital music player was Sony’s Walkman, which was followed by the Discman for playing CDs. After the advent of the MP3 file, a whole host of competing companies’ flash memory-based music players like the Creative Labs Nomad and the SanDisk Sansa emerged. However, none of these devices were as successful as the iPod, which revolutionized the way people listened to music and paved the way for other digital music services.

Today is “Slap Your Annoying Coworker Day?”

Oh man, IT work just became an amazing profession!

22 Spice ups

Working from home today, so no human co-workers to slap, at least not in person.

Not sure having dogs makes me smarter. I do, however, go on more walks.

5 Spice ups

I am pretty smart. I also have a dog. so that must be true.

Weird Al has always been one of my favorite artists, ever since I was very young. Always glad to see more of him.

I actively choose not to be responsible for another living being - I do not want pets, I am far too irresponsible. >_>

Also, gosh, the iPod was such a great thing for me - my first one was a hand-me-down, but being able to just have my music with me was a thing that made me so happy instead of having to carry a sheaf of CDs.

“Slap your annoying coworker” day doesn’t feel right. That’s a singular person, and there are many many deserving people. I’m going to have to spend the rest of the day making a list and ranking the annoyances… That’s annoying!

10 Spice ups

I still have an ipod shuffle. Won it at a firm event, rather lose/break a free device than my expensive phone while taking the doggo on walkies.

9 Spice ups

Well, I would consider the “Slap your annoying coworker” day as just the start. There are a lot more days, so use this one for coworkers, tomorrow people on the commute, the day after can be people at the mall. The possibilities are ENDLESS!

Bonus points if anyone can guess one of my favourite Weird Al songs/videos! (I have mentioned it in another post recently, but you should be able to guess it without that anyway lol)

I had an iPod (video?) with the 30-pin connector for the longest time. Basically went over to a buddy’s house and ripped all of the music he had onto the iPod. It then lived in my VW GTI (there was a dedicated slot in the center armrest) until I finally got rid of the car. The battery wouldn’t hold a charge at that point and I didn’t bother to try and salvage it.

4 Spice ups

At home sick so I can’t slap anyone.

I have 8 dogs, I must be the smartest one.

7 Spice ups

I have 2 dogs, so not as smart as you.

With 8 dogs though, I’m sure you could find a way to slap someone. “Virtual” slaps count!

5 Spice ups

Totall random guess, but I’ll go for “Eat it!!”

I saw weird al in concert a couple years ago, amazing!. It was sad that the venue was our arena, there were maybe 1200 people total, but it was an awesome show. He was so reckless with the Segway I thought it had to be on a track, but it wasnt, he just drives it that good! Have loved him ever since running with scissors!

I think the most amazing thing about that ipod was that it had a spinning hard drive and it didn’t have a ton of issues. It was a great device. I had the ipod nano a long time ago and it was one fo the first solid state ipod. It was very intuitive.

Thank you for playing, and that is a fantastic video, but that is incorrect! If you go over my history of Spark!/Snap posts, you should see a pattern…

Happy Birthday and God Bless Johnny Carson!

One of my favorite classics moments:

Also Happy Birthday “Weird Al” Yankovic and Emilia Clarke!

Inspirobot I resent that remark! Also that would be a matter of opinion.

I never had an iPod because I never took to the personal music player thing. On the other hand I do still like The Caesars who were catapulted to greater fame when thi was the iPod jingle

My sister saved up a lot of money to get what I believe was a 2nd gen iPod. It was really cool, but I didn’t want to save up that much money. Once I did have some money, I bought a SanDisk Sansa. I still have it somewhere in my office but haven’t tried to power it on in ages. Still uses AAA batteries too. Who knew so many awesome people were born today. Weird Al is still one of my favorite artists. I think his creations will be my soundtrack for the day.
