I am currently gethering information on the four classes (each about 4 hours) that will likely be held two consecutive days in the middle of June. We are crazy lucky in Calgary. The Edmonton Spice Corps fights for places to host meetings but in Calgary we have a free location at Rosenau Transport and they graciously buy pop and pizza as well.

To top that off, we had a couple new Spice Heads at our last meeting (welcome Dean and Clint - hopefully I got their names right… probably should have checked first but lets live dangerously) and Dean just happens to be a geek at a trainingg center that will make room for us to host Spice University classes.

I am looking for some rough estimates as to how many people would be interested in attending. How many have training budgets at work for this kind of stuff? Would anyone see a benefit in having an invitational flyer or something to show the boss to help get approvals?

If there is not enough interest we will not be able to get a Spice U trainer up here and it would suck for those interested to have to drive to Edmonton (or Seattle). smile

Hi Shayne,

I would be interested in the courses, I would have to discuss with my boss to see if I can get some training funds and he is out of town until Monday. Do you have a ballpark idea of how much we’re talking? I seem to remember around $400 from the meeting, but is that just for one class or the whole set?

I would also be interested in taking the course. I already know that Spiceworks training for myself is in the budget for this year so as long as the cost isn’t crazy I should have no issues

I have 2 other staff members here who would also be interested in training (3 of us total)

During working hours would be best from the sounds of it.

Hey everyone. Shane directed me here. It’s great to see the interest! SpiceU will definitely be doing all 4 classes in Calgary once we get some logistics worked out. To answer your questions above, the class prices are $99can if you sign up before the early-bird cut off date. After that, the prices jumps to $149can.

Shane or I will post back here once the classes are listed and available. I’d love to see a full class, but if we can get at least 15 people in class, I think we’ll have a great time and everyone can learn something, too!

Great, thanks for the info.

Could be fun.

And educational. I will never regret the cost or time for the SpiceU courses I sat through. Even if you think you know everything, the courses are crazy enlightening and there are so many little things I learned in the beginning class that I has assumed would be a snoozer and was beneath me.

I am looking forward to filling up the classes since we have such a great venue available to us as well as a great instructor (hopefully Grey wears his kilt to our classes too). smile

*note to self… I gotta find a picture of that…

It looks like Edmonton is a washout. I’ll review the schedule and let you guys know when/how we can do this!

just got an email invite with discounted pricing… looking great! One of our IT guys is heading out to India for 6 weeks so might be sending someone in my place… will let you know closer to the date if I can make it…

Who do I talk to about signing up once the dates and costs are firm?

Click on my profile picture and then on SpiceTrainer to sign up.

Tim, Did you get the email from SW advertising the classes? They were supposed to go to everyone in Alberta (I thought). There was links and early bird pricing in there.

For anyone who didn’t get the email here they are

I was not a member of the group until recently Shayne, just lurked in the Calgary and Edmonton groups since I did not see a benefit of joining…

Sadly I’m on childcare duty on those dates, so unless I can bring a teething 5 month old I’ll have to skip out.

I just got my tickets, looking forward to the classes!

I will see you there! also go my tickets!

Due to poor attendance, we’re moving the dates. :frowning:

New classes are on the 25th and 26th, with an updated registration being done tomorrow as today was/is a US holiday.

I’m sorry that we have to change things up and I hope that those that did sign up can still attend. We just didn’t make the critical mass of students needed. If we still can’t get enough by the 4th, we will cancel entirely.

Please don’t wait until the last minute to sign up! Travel to Canada is not cheap for your trainer and I am paid by how many attend, plus I have to cover food and aught else. Let’s see a full class so I can at least break even!

for those of us who already purchased tickets are our tickets automatically transferred to the new date?

Yes, unless you opt to cancel without a penalty.
