Hi,

This is my first time using the software and it is very exciting to find a great product and a community filled with knowledgable people. I dont know if this was answered before because I just installed the program and working my way around but my question is…

i manage different servers for small businesses and do i have to create a new user account on each server when i install the program or is there a way to have one account and manage all of my sites with that one account? If so how?

thanks in advance for any answers.

1 Spice up

Install Spiceworks on one machine only.

To access form another machine go to:

http://[insert name or IP of machine you installed it on]:[server port]

eg:

http://mySWsvr:8080

.once it’s been installed once you can use the same account to install on other machines (if you have multiple sites you wish to manage)

thank you for your answer Nick but the sites i manage are different businesses on different locations. Is there a way to do what you are saying over the internet rather than LAN.? Via VPN perhaps?

thanks

You could have a look here :

Basically a spiceworks install at each location reporting back to a centralised one.

You should be able to use the same username at each location, but i’ve not set this up so can’t say 100%.

You can use the same account on multiple sites. If you follow the link that Ian K Posted it tells you how to setup the additional sites… You would have to have an active VPN connection while the remote sites where scanning so it could send the data back to your site.

So the answer is NO…

If you have 5 different companies that your want to provide support for centrally / remotely…

If you have 5 different sites under one company then yes…

at least that is how I’ve seen it described cleanly…

Otherwise there would have to be permission controls as to which company could access the other companies data…

Best solution is one server per company… Remote into each server to check issues and have each company’s SW server email a central account about tickets and such…

Keeps it separate and data doesn’t get centralize when it should be.

Currently I doubt the DB can Be partitioned for a service providers need to keep clients completely separate…

Thank you all for valuable inputs… I will try the suggestions and let you know how it works out…
