We had a local Spiceworks Desktop server setup that I was unaware of. I did some other work on the server yesterday and it looks like it destroyed the Spiceworks setup and all data. I’m hoping someone from Spiceworks can contact me directly and see what we can do to get it back up. I realize the data might be gone but I need to get the server backup and an unsure how to go about doing it.

Where are your backups?

Hey AJ,

If you have a backup, as Rod mentioned, then we should be able to get things up and running without any problems. If you don’t have a backup, you’ll need to hit www.spiceworks.com/download to grab the latest version. Then, install the application and start configuring things once more.

If you have a backup, you’ll still need to grab the latest version and install. Then, ensuring Spiceworks is shutdown, replace the newly created data and db folders at C:\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks with the data and db folders from the extracted backup.

No Backups that I’m aware of. Again I was unaware this server had this. I was able to find the Spiceworks folder off Previous Versions on Program Files(x86) am I able to restore the data from the raw files in this folder?

Hmm, does the folder contain data and DB subfolders? If so, you should be able to drop those into place. If they’re not ecent, you’ll lose some data. However, it may be better than starting fresh!

The data subfolder will have a number of subfolders as well. Inside the DB folder, you’ll want to have a spiceworks_prod.db file. That’s the DB that Spiceworks uses. Without that, you’ll need to start fresh.

I did install and copied those directories and it did work. They lost about a day’s work but all seems well on the reinstall.

Kudos to Spiceworks for making such a robust product. This was so easy to restore I figured it wouldn’t work. Thank you again!

Step 2 - get Spiceworks dumping backups *(within it settings you can schedule it) then get the server backed up.
