No matter what settings I use:
Unable to connect to spiceworks.com,
Proxy test fails.
Using “known good credentials.” Need better info and debugging ability.
I use same creds to get out every single day, yet “proxy test” when trying to setup Spiceworks Desktop fails.

Have you done a basic ping test from the host and tracert? How is your DNS server looking?

What version of Spiceworks are you on? There was a bug patched this week that was causing proxy setups to fail. If you are not on 7.5.00070 then use the link below to upgrade and then test again.

DNS and pings are perfect; as I said, ALL works great, just going “browser-to-Internet,” using the exact same proxy settings. Just the Web interface for setting it up for Spiceworks seems to not pass the test. ?
Thanks Will. I just pulled it down yesterday, but I will double-check.
Should just have some button/feature that says “Use existing IE proxy” and/or “use existing credentials.”
So, I’m not sure how to get this working, in order to do proof of concept. Definitely should not be this difficult.

Thanks for the info. I’ve seen some proxies that don’t like the authentication through 3rd party apps. We can take a look at your logs to see if that gives any extra info though. I’ll send over an email with instructions on how to send those over shortly.
Logs sent. Thanks again for taking a look.
Well, I replied in another post (old one) – looks like it may be IE-centric. I tried in Chrome, and the proxy test succeeds!
I am on IE11, but it has quite a few problems with various apps an pages, and I think you folks recommend Chrome and Firefox, right?
Just PLEASE make sure we have excellent instructions on exactly how to make Chrome the “default browser” for the workstation/server in question. Thanks! (I will keep testing in Chrome & see how it goes).

Thanks for the update. Yes, we do recommend Firefox or Chrome where possible. Another thing that you can try if you run into issues in Chrome is to made the exception on the proxy/web filter side explicitly.

That’s not Spiceworks area, this will be a GPO on your domain.
The browser you choose to use in your work place may also be dictated by the applications you need - we have some apps internally that are IE only so people have to switch browsers if they need something Chrome specific.
If you are running IE11 on a server - you should run it from your desktop via the app on the server, however, if you are running it on the server disable ESC and try again
Not on a server yet, at this point. Thanks.
No, I was just saying to give some ‘tips’ on setting default; but Google for that process works fine - I looked up how to ensure another default browser is set. NBD, I’ve done that before - and it helps in testing.
Right, Corporate chooses our browser via GPO, like most companies.
But, for testing, I wanted to make sure it wasn’t “halfway-choosing” IE for some pages (which it was doing initially) and then choosing Chrome for other pages.
Thanks!
