Hi

Does anyone know where Spiceworks gets the software listing from on a network scan

Its picking up software that is not installed on PC’s… Is it stored somewhere in the regsitry??

3 Spice ups

Hi Nathan6883, we get the software information from the following registry key. If entries exist after being uninstalled Spiceworks will still show the software as installed.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

does Spiceworks get the software listings from anywhere else? I have 5 computers that are showing software that has been uninstalled. And I checked in the registry that is shown above and nothing is listed in it that resembles the software that is still isted as being installed by Spiceworks.

I just ran some vbs scripts on these computers. These vbs scripts just pull from the same registry key that you mentioned above. I was just checking in case I was missing something. And the script doesn’t pull the software that was uninstalled. So Spiceworks must be looking somewhere else also - but where/?

It looks like some changes were made, let me get with the developer and find out whats happening.

Sorry for the delayed response.

The software that we use to get product keys (ProduKey) will also add software to a device in Spiceworks if it detects a product key in the Windows Registry.

is there a way round this, its very deceiving when looking to see how many machines have a particular package installed and there is twice as many as you thought, but when you manually check each one, you find half of them had the package removed.

I am encountering the same problem, please advise if there is any solution to this issue.

Thank you,

Justin
